Dr. Gurash also specializes in creating individualized behavior plans, advocacy and collaboration.
Dr. Nicole Gurash is the founder, owner and manager of ABC Behavioral Services. She enjoys working with children, adolescents, teens and families living with autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, challenging behaviors, anxiety and mood disorders. Dr. Gurash's therapeutic orientations include utilizing Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy (ABA) and third wave behavior therapies, such as, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness approaches.
What is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)? In ACT, we don't encourage one trying to remove or change difficult thoughts or feelings. Rather, we foster psychological flexibility in the following ways: by promoting acceptance of what is, in the moment, including difficult thoughts and feelings, so that workable action and positive behavior change can be taken toward reaching one's personal values and committed therapy goals. Evidence-based research shows us that this behavioral approach makes for a more fulfilling life than does trying to control or avoid the negative thoughts and feelings to achieve relief. Dr. Gurash has seen the immense benefits that behavior therapy and ACT provides for children and families living with anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, autism spectrum disorders & ADHD; mainly due to the focus on acceptance, emotional regulation, improving socially significant behaviors and fostering flexible thinking skills through the therapeutic relationship.
Finally, in addition to working with children and families, Dr. Gurash is an adjunct faculty member teaching graduate courses in Psychology and Applied Behavior Analysis at Purdue University Global. Dr. Gurash has also met the BACB’s requirements to provide supervision to board certification applicants. Since 2001, her work experiences have included clinical, in-home, special education and early intervention settings.
